The most difficult part seems to be getting able to have the leg do its own thing. No real physical feedback with the bass drum (unless you have a real kick pedal and pad I guess) is probably a large part of that.
The RB2 trainer might help. Other than just practicing and playing, it would seem working on that limb independence would be the best help. Here's some sites I just found searching.
