http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9H5bUxe3v9g This is their newest song and video. It's called "WTF?" |
My immediate reaction when I saw that (a few days ago) was WTF indeed, WTF happened to the good band who did good songs. And when I say good songs I don't mean that treadmill nonsense and that album, they'd even started to go bad by then. Listen to their first album, particularly the first two songs, they should've stuck to that. _________________

I wouldn't expect anyone outside of the Twin Cities or greater MN area to know these bands (FlyingMonkeys, chime in if you recognize any of these guys), but Prozac Rat, Phantom Tails, Estate, and Solid Gold are all awesome.
As far as less local bands are concerned, I really like Miniature Tigers. They have that lighter garage rock sound similar to The Strokes. Their first album came out last year and I really enjoy it. _________________

I don't know if anyone has said Cage the Elephant, but they're a new blues-rock band and they're awesome!
Oh and in a related matter, there are people who think CCR is not a real band... _________________

They're also well known, which is why nobody mentioned them before. And I'd call them far from awesome, but that's just me.
One thing about them, though: if I hadn't heard their music, I would've assumed they were a mathcore band. Their name just sounds so suitable for mathcore. _________________

Drudkh, somebody posted them in the metal thread a week or so ago and holy shit, they are amazing. They are a Ukranian black metal band, they aren't satanic and most of their music is just plain beautiful. The only problem I have with them is a lot of their songs have pretty terrible production value, but the music is still amazing.
This song is amazing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SvWQQaCpte4 _________________

Brilliant. I'm gonna give them a listen. Sounds like just my brand of ridiculous.
EDIT: Wow, their longest song is 6 hours and 44 minutes. And one of their albums goes on for 22 hours and 47 minutes. I haven't heard anything yet and they're already my new favourite band. |
So, I just got through listening to one of their songs, a positively restrained 2 hours 15 minutes, and I'm pleased to report that I've finally found an absolutely perfect soundtrack for when I'm working. I need to have some kind of background noise when I'm typing, but it can't be anything with words because I usually end up typing what I'm hearing, and lately I'm finding that even a tune distracts me. This, on the other hand, is so sparse and nothing-ish that it serves as a perfect ambient noise without any chance of distraction.
Cheers to TopGearFTW for throwing that one out there, now I've just got to get myself a Megaupload account so that I can download the rest of their stuff (if you follow the link from last.fm to their actual site, it's all up there for download)... damn my shared IP address. _________________

Heh. No problem, I never thought of using it as background music, but now you mention it that would make more sense than putting on a 6 hour long song for the sake of actually listening to it >__> _________________

Anyone hear of Pelican?
I went to one of their smaller venue concerts up in Portland a few years back and thought they were alright. _________________

From Sword to Sunrise - http://www.myspace.com/fromswordtosunrise
These guys opened for All That Remains and Lacuna Coil and i must say they are amazing. Usually opening bands suck so i was just kinda chilling at the begining. About halfway through the first song i was trying to get up to the front because they sounded soo good. Right after they played, i went over to their booth, bought their cd, talked to the lead singer and got my cd signed. IMO they sound better live then in the studio, but they still are a very good band.
My Youtube channel has their entire cd

They're incredible... but unknown? They're alongside Isis as the biggest band in their genre. _________________
