Funny that for me, I knew exactly how good I wasn't when I first joined SH. Then again, I used to be very familiar with score sites for DDR (as a user of the now-defunct NNR) and ITG (as both a former user and former moderator of Groovestats).
I welcome being crap at this game compared to a lot of y'all. For one thing, it never fails to keep you humble. Also, if a site can keep it as friendly as this one generally has, there may be a lot of climbing to be had, but there are also a lot of happy rewards along the way; I celebrate every one of my Hard/Expert FCs, and I hope I never get to the point where they start to become boring. Commonplace, I'll accept. _________________

I used to have that problem, but now I just slide using the same two fingers the entire time. Now I can get it consistently, I just always choke later. |

In the OP:
elx wrote: | Now for B/OB league. Once again, submissions were much higher than expected (about 250 between the 2 leagues). We have decided to roll B and OB together, and will then be splitting the combined leagues into 5 divisions. In the future, there will no longer be separate signups for B and OB, we will set it up just like GH3 Expert has been run. |
That means that OB is still pretty much separate, but that Hard is getting divied up into several divisions, too. It doesn't hurt you -- it probably helps you. It helps the people who were in that grey area between too good for B but not good enough to win OB, anyway. But it shouldn't do anything but make it fairer. _________________

Barfo:
"So it is very possible that there was a sea change in terms of accessibility"
I daresay that having signup done directly from the site and not having to do the (ahem) effort of having to register on ghevents, plus the various validation errors formthat site, have contributed significantly in having signups from people who had not participated before. It's now so easy, only a few clicks from the site itself! Hence a triple jump in scores. Though I daresay we'll see the usual drop in participation in further weeks as people realise the time investment to get good scores and improve.

Indeed! This is exactly what has happened to me - I'd never have had FCs on Expert (or attaining expert rank at all) if it wasn't for working my ass and fingers off during league time! Now my goal is to last to second round in playoffs.
And for me, joining SH showed me I wasn't as bad as I thought I was... msot of the time I'm shooting to be in the top half of scores on a song. And often do it, too! For me, that's a realistic goal (considering the state of my bones and reflexes). _________________

And I'm sure was done by JCirri, who has nothing to do with the leagues.
I particularly like the change in the slogan. |

Agreed, but the "five roses" on the Accomplishment board makes me giggle slightly more _________________

At first, I was like WTF?! But now it's BA... awesome. Also, stars are hearts, and all the pages are pink. Where's the unicorns? Lol
"It's not pink, it's lightish red!!"
"Yeh, they already have a color for that. Know what it's called? PINK!"
"I hate you guys..."
